Continental Bakeries (CB) is a European bakery group specialized in the development, production and sales of biscuits, confectionery, bread replacements and toast. The focus is on private label products and a number of great own brands such as Haust, Gille, Grabower, Bussink, Brinky and Continental Bakeries. CB is based in Dordrecht and has fifteen ‘Production Centres of Excellence’ in 5 European countries staffed by a total of 2,500 employees. Continental Bakeries has a rich history that goes back to the 16th century. In 1593, Jacob Bussink started his bakery in Deventer, specializing in Deventer cake. Since then, various takeovers and mergers over the centuries have resulted in the Continental Bakeries of today. The centralised Procurement team located in Dordrecht is building a new ‘best practice Procurement organization’. A category-based organization structure with 3 strategic categories ‘Raw Materials’, ‘Packaging Materials’ and ‘Non-Product Related (NPR)’. The total spend that is managed by the Procurement team is approximately € 250 m.
The role of a Strategic Purchaser Commodity Raw Materials is a new one in the organization.
The importance of raw material commodities has evolved in recent times and with strategic growth in key raw materials areas within the company, Continental Bakeries are looking to further staff the Raw Materials department. He or she will report to the CPO directly and work alongside of the Procurement Manager Raw Materials in overall value delivery and development of supplier base and category strategy as well as negotiations. He or she will work closely with key stakeholders to develop effective spend management strategies and implementation plans. The Strategic Purchaser is expected to develop or assist in developing tools and strategies for commodity raw materials buying.
The ideal candidate has a background in food/feed/commodities, is very much process and content driven, has a ‘can do’ mentality and is knowledgeable on state of the art techniques in their area of expertise. A hard working professional, output oriented, strategic, but also hands-on. CB is a true innovative, market-driven, sales company.
